Marden Bowls Club

On Sunday 30th August, Marden Bowls Club hosted the Maidstone & District finals. The weather was kind in the morning and early afternoon, but sadly it turned very wet for the final game sessions. A good crowd of supporters were in attendance throughout the day and witnessed some great bowls. Food & Beverages were enjoyed throughout! Success for Marden once again! Marden has won the Maidstone & District 4’s League title for the second successive year. There is one more game to be played; however, there are insufficient points available to alter the league position. A fantastic result given the recent hot weather and the challenge that we have all faced with local greens being difficult to maintain. Congratulations to Marden Bowls Club on winning the Millennium Trophy against Holmesdale on Sunday 23rd August. Rob Ferguson set the team up well with a convincing win in the Singles with Paul Hutson narrowly missing out by one shot in the Two Wood singles. Huge congratulations to Michael Doorey, who had a fantastic run in the county singles this year! Michael made it to county singles quarter final before falling just short, losing 21-17 to Danny Smith from Halls. Highlights include two exceptional wins in the Divisional semi final and final, over Harry Goodwin and Lewis King.  

Last Time out Paul Hutson's pockets were ‘heavy with coin’ at the end of the evening, whereas Sharon Lander stayed loyal to horse number 4 but did eventually win a race!! We are holding another event in August. Last year it was well supported and raised much-needed funds for the club and it was a chance to gather socially. It was a very enjoyable evening, this event will be held on grass or alternatively indoors if the weather is inclement....

Congratulations to Paul Hutson, who successfully won his County Unbadged Divisional final on Tuesday evening at Maidstone against Paul Grant from Appleyard. Paul played very well, winning 21-9 in very warm conditions. Paul qualifies for the Kent Unbadged Singles Quarter Final at Maidstone on 18th July. A small but knowledgeable group of members were there to cheer him on and were rewarded afterwards with drinks in the bar!
