Marden Bowls Club members are also automatically Short Mat members, although some choose to winter elsewhere. Some players just join the Short Mat section.
Two mats are laid out in our clubhouse from the end of September until mid-April for this most sociable of games. We ‘roll-up’ for a 2pm start, have a cuppa at 3pm and then play again until 4:30pm. These games happen on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and are full of fun and chatter.
Dress is casual, except for the flat-soled shoes which we change into to protect the mats. We occasionally play friendly matches against other clubs, fielding whichever players wish to take part.
Singles, pairs and triples competitions are organised for those who wish to join in. Our ‘finals’ afternoon is well supported and we don our club match shirts to mark this climax to the season.
A warm welcome is assured and gentle coaching offered to new bowlers. Come along and have a go!
